Well I hope you get to visit Berling another time, under better conditions. This cousin much be what we call "clueless". It is inconceivable that he invited you and your husband *in order to* be inhospitable to you. Maybe he just doesn't realise what a poor host he was, or what might reasonably have been expected of him as a host? Or, maybe he's just a total jerk, who for some unexplained reason decided to issue an invitation.
