I love the way this is a companion piece to 'Across all Ages'. I like seeing both sides of the same scene this way and hearing their thoughts.

Zeke seems to reveal a dark possessive side here, in being 'jealous' of Casey's dreams. I can identify with that, being insanely possessive, LOL! If someone has been trained by experience towards distrustful feelings, then love has a painful side of uncontrollable need and insecurity.

It's quite disturbing that he sees himself as 'thin ice' and that 'things will get broken'. He's not sure of his own strength and there are 'dark secrets' lurking 'beneath the surface'. I could quite imagine that Zeke would fear the extremes of emotion and even action that he could be driven to if he surrenders his independence of spirit to another person.

even angels feel the
Pain of
Love.

I think he is wise to call love pain because even when it goes smoothly between two people, there is always the dread of them being taken from you or falling ill. You have to be able to smother those feelings in order to enjoy the present and that depends on your own state of mind and your experience. I think Zeke is afraid of bringing his darkness into Casey's life, of clouding his innocence with paranoid fears.

Your no less a miracle for
Being ordinary.

In fact, it is Casey's pure faith that makes him extraordinary, a miracle in Zeke's life.

I love this, and Zeke's realisation that hits like an arrow that he is in Love. That is a great metaphor - both Cupid's dart and mortal wound. Oh Love, what have you done? There will be pain, but it will be worth it - it must be!!
