You love the roses - so do I.  I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush.  Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on.  They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!
-   George Eliot, Roses

Oh thank you so much Judith! What a lovely poem and a lovely message! It's not actually my birthday today, someone must have made a mistake, but it is so sweet to see these beautiful messages, it was just what I needed today! *big hugs*

Oooops. I'm glad you like, I'm sorry I picked the wrong day.
But it doesn't really matter, right ? Sometimes you need something special... for me that you are my friend. "smiles and hugs you back*

I don't much enjoy George Eliot's prose - but I like this very much . . . She's a bit like Thomas Hardy: they wrote poems for me to read . . . and some other stuff ;)

Same to me my dear, it's the only poem I like from George Eliot. I love Leo Bruscaglia more... Thomas Hardy? Never heard of him.

TH wrote interminable angsty novels that make you want to cut your wrists - and then he wrote poetry to die for . . . life's a weird journey ;(

I think poetry works better for me than prose - I like the way it tucks everything into a small space and challenges us to pick that space apart.
