Who can say for certain you’re not what I see.
I'm watching you from my desk as you walk slowly into the classroom.
As always I'm there before you, as always I'm greeting you with a self-conscious wave. I'd never realized it but your smile is one of the things I come to expect in the mornings. I didn't know I need it. I didn't know how much I need it. To help me through the day, to keep me upright. How to describe your smile ... friendly, calmly reassuring, naive too.
You're not weak but... innocent? O no, I don't think so, not that kind of innocence. I know a special little smile, a smile for me only. I got it the first time when you gave me your soul in the dark last night. When you came to my place in the pouring rain, hands folded over your chest, shivering in the cold. I didn't expect this to happen.
In the early morning hours you smiled sincerely at me ... this smile told me it was the place you wanted to be.
I'm watching your face now, as I watched it the entire night... so warm, so soft ... your eyes lock me within a trance.
It's the promise I see , the promise of forever. The promise I soundlessly repeat on my lips. Words for you only.
