It's raining and raining and raining, what could be better than reading ?
I started the Fellowship of the Ring anew, can't tell you how much I love those books and I love them more and more, the often I read them.

'No! I could not"' he said to himself *It is one thing to take my young friends walking over the Shire with me, until we are hungry andw weary, and food and bed are sweet. To take them into exile, where hunger and weariness may have no cure, is quite another - even if they are willing to  come. The inheritance is mine alone. I don't think I ought even to take Sam'. He looked at Sam Gamgee, and discovered that Sam was watching him.
'Well, Sam!' he said. 'What about it? I am leaving the Shire as soon as ever I can - in fact I have made up my mind now not even to wait a day at Crickhollow, if it can be helped.'
'Very good, sir!'
'You still mean to come with me?'
'I do.'
'It is going to be very dangerous, Sam. It is already dangerous. Most likely neither of us will come back.'
'If you don't come back, sir, then I shan't, that's certain', said Sam. 'Don't you leave him! they said to me. Leave him! I said.I never mean to. I am going with him, if he climbs to the Moon, and if any of those Black Riders try to stop him, they'll have Sam Gamgee to reckon with, I said. 'They laughed'
(A short cut to mushrooms)

Whenever I read this part I fell in love with the hobbits, more and more ...

Have a wonderful Sunday, all of you!

Julchen

I love the Crickhollow scenes. I wanted to reread the books as well during the holidays, but it seems I'm too busy with writing and, besides, there is still this scarlet letter waiting for me... *sighs*

Ach, Sam! Saaaaaam!!!

*Bussi*

Yay Sam. And I adore Frodo's use of speech.

Frodo: Except when he asks you to get up and make him breakfast.

Sam: Too right.

Happy reading! :o)
Have read them about 15 times meself, but it´s a couple of years ago since the last time. I actually got this great English version with paintings of Alan Lee for my b-days a few years ago, and I haven´t read it yet.
As soon as I get the time, I WILL re-read LOTR and Silmarillion.

Middle Earth is a wonderful world to fall into. I always loved to read about how Phillippa Boyens used to read them once a year on a long rainy weekend... mmm perfect!

Free time, a rainy day and Lord of the Rings to read and re-read (hopefully surrounded by sleeping cats). What's more to ask?

I remember a Sunday, some years ago, I was alone at home and spent all the afternoon reading (for the second time) The Fellowship of the Ring (I read 200 pages that day).

It was a very cold February Sunday and the wind was blowing really hard. I watched the sunset from my window, watched the birds fly high and I imagined the Shire. In that moment, in total silent, save for the whistle of the wind, I WAS in the Shire. I'll never forget that afternoon.

I'm so glad you can feel the same too!

*Hugs*

Ich liebe der Herrn der Ringe zu lesen! Is it right? (I know just a few words in German, I tried to learn a bit some years ago)

*Kuss*

What a wonderful reply, I see we understand each other very well.
Whenever I am reading this books I am in the Shire. Shire is right here.
I am reading the books since I am 17 ... again and again, can't get enough of them.
It must be a wonderful day for you ... I can FEEL it .. you let your heart speak.

Ich liebe der Herr der Ringe zu lesen!
Richtig.

You are good.

*Kuss zurück*
