By the light of a candle
I woke up this morning
with Casey in my arms …
silently weeping.
“Casey?”
Did I do something wrong?
“What’s up, dear?”
He snuggled closer and closer.
I was stroking his back because
I didn’t know what else to do.
He looked at me …
this gaze blew me down …
I had my lips his hair and my free hand was moving
on his chest,
progressing from tentative touches
to light stroking,
and now to gentle massaging.
He was responding to me.
I was hearing more sighs now than sobs.
He spoke through quiet snufflings…
“Do you know
how it feels
when you wake up
and you can’t stop crying
because you’re so
damned
happy?
When you are so happy that
your heart aches?”
Oh Casey…
I’m living in a dream
Of a dream

I know you’ll never go ..
This here –
