I went running again,

first through a path in the close by forest,

then past Herrington High

and out to the point

where the sea winds are

the most

cutting.

I wanted to feel

pain.

On my face, too.

 

The air was cold -

 I felt like

calling out

over the sea

as it rolls in –

wave after wave –

touching land, stones,

rocks,

tucking under –

gone.

Haunting.

Torturing.

Calling.

 

I wanted to shout

anger, fear, rage, frustration

loneliness…  

I had to confront myself

in the darkness

in the cold.

Here.

Where no one would hear

me.

 

Do people hear me at all?

It seems like no one

listens.

No one ever listened.

To me.

I AM human.

I HAVE feelings.

But…

No. One. Cares.

 

There was nothing between me

and the dark.

It would have been so easy to

stop.

The Waves.

The Sea.

Calling … calling… calling…

ME!

 

I know my own true face.

I don’t like it.

I’m not strong.

I want let go sometimes.

Only one time.

This time.

Now.

 

Then there it was

a whisper of fear –

a whisper that sounded

like

my name.

 

“Zeke… Don’t… Please… Zeke…”

The whispering voice turned

into murmurs,

became louder,

clearer.

 

Covering my ears with my hands

it didn’t stop.

“Zeke… Zeke… Zeke…”

 

Opening my eyes

I saw

blue eyes.

Warm blue eyes.

They told me

what I so wanted to hear

“Stay.”

 

He chose the moment

to close the distance

between me

and the world.

Between us.

Pressed tight to him

he stroke my back

“Don’t, Zeke… Please…”

How did he know?

Why was he here?

 

“Don’t hate yourself

for who you are…”

My heart was pounding –

Maybe there was something

Waiting for me…

Someone, too?

 

Things changed…

All because of few words?

“Stay, Zeke…”

All because of

Casey Connor?

He leaned on me.

There was no need to ask

‘How did you know?

Why have you come?’

 

He answered before I

could say anything.

“Because I care, Zeke…”

About me?

“Yes. About you.”

 

We kept quiet

listening to the sea

which wasn’t demanding

Anymore.

 

I realized I was holding him, too.

Close.

Tight.

 

I knew what to do

when he looked at me.

 

Tears were falling –

like rainbow pearls…

Loneliness doesn’t have

to exist anymore. Not

with him

by my side.

 

“I’ll stay, my friend..."
