our christmas gift to ourselves

a little fellow

It was December 10th and it was a day full of snowstorms, cold and darkness.
Wolfgang and I had to go to a customer of his boss to deliver cake, bread and cookies.
So we drove about 1 1/2 hour when we arrived at a big farm with huge stables and big snow mountains.
We delivered the goods to the people who were very grateful and they showed us their animals,
cows, geese, hens and more than 30 cats!
So far so good.

Just before we had to leave the biggest barn I took a look sideward because I thought to hear a little noise.
And there it was - a tiny grey fur bundle, trembling and silently hissing. The eyes were stuck shut, the nose was running and you could see every bone of the little body.
Wolfgang and I looked at each other and I asked the farmer what he's going to do with this sick little creature.
He shook his shoulders and said - "nothing, she won't survive anyway".
So I tried to come closer to the little kitten and she really cried so loud this broke my heart. To make a long story short -
of course we had to take her with us. On our way back home Wolfgang called the veterinary and we arrived one hour later.
She (it's a little lady) got penicillin, vitamines, combination vaccine against 5 diseases and I had to feet her 7 times the day.
Last Friday she had her last appointment at the vet and now she's alive and kicking! It was the best Christmas gift we could get.
Her favorite place is my bed (this absolutely doesn't surprise me) and Wolfgang's slipper. She loves sitting on the coffee machine, playing with my other cats (they all love her - I call it baby bonus) and at the moment she's running around with a little yellow ball, using Bibi and Isabel as trampoline.

And here she is, I took the photo this morning:
Leni, 12 weeks old and her eyes are really that turquoise (I hope this doesn't change).

all I can say is - how beautiful a day can be when love touches it.
And we love her and she ... loves us as well it seems.

What a beautiful story...good thing you rescued her. The other owner had too many animals to take proper care of and didn't value this one.

That's so true, romeny. 30 cats and the farmer feeds them all but a visit by the vet is surely too expensive. I'm glad Leni is now with us!

Can you feel how tight I'm hugging you right now? How many licks and headrubs you get from my little rascals? Eliana - wonderful name! I'll tell you what -Wolfgang got another little creature today. He found her at an elderly lady who can't take care of her anymore and she asked him if he would know someone who'd be interested. Guess who that people are :-)
Number 13! She's white and we're still looking for a name. Eliana would be perfect!

Bless your heart! She is beautiful! I'm so glad that you were there and was able to rescue her. I don't think her eyes will change from that beautiful turquoise if she really is 12 weeks. Usually they will get their permanent eye color shortly after 8 weeks.

What a beautiful story and what beautiful people you two are for taking her in and healing her! We have a farm and I've seen so many cats get distemper over the years because they get over-populated. And we couldn't afford to treat them because there were just so many. She is a very lucky little girl that you found her. *hugs*

Oh yes, over-population is a problem here, too. But few friends and we always try to help. Even it's not enough we'll never stop. Today Wolfgang took another little one from an old lady who couldn't take care of the little kitten. She asked him if he would know someone who'd like to take her. And of course he couldn't say no :-) She's number 13, there's still a little place for this baby. I'll tell you more about her later ;-)

It's so good to hear from you - how lucky that Leni and you met - and that you have the loving heart that you do and rescued her. Her eyes are absolutely gorgeous.

What a beautiful story and just another example (of many) of what a wonderful and loving person you are - and why you are so special to me.

What a beautiful, beautiful kitty. And bless you forever for saving her. I would have done exactly the same as you. I could never have left her there to die.

I rescued a cat with a very young kitten this summer. They were living under our barn, but I moved them into the house. They are happy now in new homes because I already have five cats and couldn't have anymore.

The kitten now in her new home.

This post shows me how big your heart is. These cats are soooo beautiful! I love their colors and they are lucky one's that you saved them. Thanks so much for the great photos, I'll try to post more of mine the next days :-)
What are your cat's names? How old are they? Photos pleeeease! Aren't they just wonderful friends? Feeling when we are sad, bouncing when we are happy.
