Some of you I told already that I love words.
Many years ago, it was one of those boring Sundays, school work done, room cleaned, nothing to read (at this time I didn't know LOTR exists ...) and I didn't know what to do.

My dad gave me an idea. "Pick up some words for the next Sundays" - he told me.

And since then I'm doing this, I think for about 30 years.
At the beginning of a new year - January 1st to be exactly - I'm choosing words for the coming Sundays.
I'm always outside in our garden, whether it's raining, snowing, cold - it doesn't matter, picking up words.
I call them "Sunday words".
And every Sunday I take "my" word and "work" begins. It's stunning what you think, read, listen, find with this word. First I write it down, I add stories I love to this word, articles of newspapers, quotes, own thoughts (yes, I CAN think for myself, LOL), pictures. Can you imagine how many sketch books are filled?

The word for last Sunday was FEATHERS ..
and I found this:

A small white feather
soars and falls like a coaster ride,
it climbs, then falls, to climb and fall once more.

No hurry, slow
then quick then slow again,
it wanders listlessly,
here then there.
In gentle breeze it dances freely
and with ease it does a turn.

Fading light helps the illusion,
the impression that as it dances,
slow, slow
quick, quick
slow ...
it does a Waltz.

Have a wonderful weekend, my dear friends
with feather like day- and nightdreams.

Love and hugs,
Julchen

I love this idea! I have a book that I'm supposedly working my way through to extend my vocabulary but I never quite get to it. This would work better!

Hugs,
Rach

How very perceptive and clever of your father!

But you do have a true gift for finding your words, as well. That poem was just wonderful, really. The rhythm of it is exceptional, I think.

No hurry, slow
then quick then slow again,
it wanders listlessly,
here then there.

And I can't tell you how much I enjoy the look of that last line. I can't write poetry for beans, and this is the piece that escapes me.

And you illustrate them, too? You really should start an on-line gallery, you know!

My dad always knows how to keep his daughters busy, I'm very proud of him.
I'm glad, you like the poem, EBW. Thank you.

Yes, I illustrate them, the sketchbooks are treasures for me. Maybe some day I'll start an on-line gallery, what a wonderful idea. I never thought about it.
My Sunday word guides me during the running week, I'm always surprised at the end of the week how many wonderful treasures I've found. For example: "Feathers" filled 32 pages :-) and I found a feather of an owl at my Sunday evening walk.

Thank you, my dear, for your lovingly words.

My next "Sunday word" will be "Trust", I'm looking forward to the new "trust collection".
So it will start tomorrow morning.

Have a wonderful day, my dear.

Lots of love,
Julchen

*twirls you*

What a wonderful idea! We are a bit alike, I think. I have favorite words that move me and I associate songs and images and characters and events and bits of my life with them. They are like magical talismans, soul secrets and starlight. Like the blue moon!

((hugs))

"We are a bit alike"... no, dearie, not only a bit! Words are magic and it's stunning what we associate with a single word, isn't it?
Blue moon *happy sigh* - moon has been my sunday word on March 25th, today I had to print this lovely icon and added it to this special Sunday word :-)

Love you, lady moonshine

I do love feathers. And how appropriate that this matches your Elijah manip request! Will keep this handy for additional inspiration . . . Lovely, lovely poem.

I love words, too. Do you read the dictionary then? I find it utterly relaxing and so interesting. *is a nerd*

Date: 2007-08-11 11:04 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com
I love them, too, wenchie. My collection of feathers I've found is very big and all of them are beautiful. The colours, the smoothness, some of them are broken - all of them are magical.
I'm glad you love the poem, sweetie and I knew you do love words.
Sometimes I read the dictionary, as you say, it's very very intersting.
You're not a nerd, doll - I'd call you "Lady Cleverly"
Your icon is simply wonderful!

Sorry - hit the wrong key!

I love that you do that with words - how wonderful! What a wonderful father!

to climb and fall once more.

No hurry

Thank you for sharing a bit of yourself in such a beautiful way.

*hugs and kisses*

ps: a word for you "friend"

Date: 2007-08-11 11:10 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com
Thank you, dearest! Words are amazing, every single one contains so much - it depend on the sight of view what we make of it, what we are thinking - you understand? I know you do.
Oh yes, my father is wonderful. Whenever we meet we are dicussing words, and he always wants to know my Sunday word.

No hurry - that's me, so you know me very well :-)

"friend" - this was my Sunday word on may 6th:

Friends are those rare people who ask how you are and then wait to hear the answer.

Thank you, my friend, for always asking and always listening.

Love,
Julchen

That's really interesting! You should publish the contents of your books. It's once something different than poems about zodiacs and birthdays.

Have a great weekend, sweetie-pie!

Thank you, honey-bee! My self-made books are treasures to me and very close to my heart.
Oh, one of my Sunday words in April, April 15th, was "rustling". I put a part of your wonderful story to it - the part with the entrance of your Aunt Lobelia :-)

Have a nice weekeend, too, my dear!

That's really lovely Julchen, it sounds like your father's heart is as poetic as yours :) Here's a picture I found online of a cloud that looks like a feather, drifting through the sky :)

Thank you, my dear Jack! The picture is awesome,I'm just printing it and will add it to my "feathers". It's amazing. It looks like the wing of an angel ...
When I was a child I got my very first book from my father. The love for written words I got from him, he loves words as much as I do and I can tell you, we had wonderful dicussions for hours about a single word.

Angel wings

Funny how things turn around
Caught me before I hit the ground
Flew me away with angels wings
Took me away to better things
You have a strength you don’t know
It picks me up when I am low
I want that strength possessed by few
I want some wings just like you

Have a wonderful weekend, love. It's wonderful to know you around.

Massive hugs,
Julchen

What a really beautiful poem! And what a very special father you have and a wonderful relationship with him :) One of my very first memories is of my dad sitting me on his lap and reading part of the Lord of the Rings to me :) Words and the imagination are powerful, wonderful things :) *big hugs*

What a lovely idea your father gave you - and how special that you have kept it going all these years. That verse was lovely - I love a feather floating in the breeze - it's one of my favorite images from the movie Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks.

You must have quite a stack of sketch books!! But thank goodness you do and share so much with us - I always look forward to your posts. *HUGS*

Date: 2007-08-14 05:49 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com
Feathers always remind me on Forrest Gump :-)
Actually there are 42 sketchbooks I've finished, the next 3 I started in spring this year, 2 of them are almost finished :-) It seems someday I'll get my own library, the rooms where my books are will always be my litte home, my little personal Shire. And you, my dear friend, will be always right beside me. It's a wonderful feeling I can tell you :-)
I'm glad you like the poems,my dear. It's always a pleasure to see you here.

Lots of love,
Julchen

I'm just strolling through your journal, J! I really like this idea your dad gave you! It's a great way to discover and rediscover poetry and so on -- and it's a great way to express yourself aswell. I love that we share a love of words! *hugs*

Awww, you're a dear! Words are amazing, I never leave home without my dictionary, just in case I want to know something ...

"It's a great way to discover and rediscover poetry ..."

I couldn't have said it better, Cali. And it's a wonderful way learning English and SOMETIMES (I'm sure) I'll understand everything what I'm reading *giggles*

Love and big tight hugs,
Julchen
